Video Transcript: Fighting Pleural Mesothelioma With Clinical Trials: Mesothelioma Treatment
He never really complained about any symptoms, even when the doctor asked whether he was in pain, he would always say, "No." But he said that he opted for the drug trials so that even if his life couldn’t be extended, perhaps someone else’s could. He went through three trials with various levels of success. And I don’t remember the names of the drugs, except for one. Each trial would last 3 or 4 months, and there would always be tests as these trials were going on to see how he was responding to the drugs.... whether the tumors in the lining of his lungs were decreasing or increasing. He was asked to keep a detailed record of everything that was happening to him throughout the trials. How was he feeling, what were the side effects? Day-to-day changes. At the end of the trial the doctor would assess whether that treatment had been successful, and then my dad would take a break for a month or two until the next trial started. Two of the trials did result in a reduction of the tumors, but not for very long, and they just continued to grow.
