Video Transcript: Minister Discovers He Has Pleural Mesothelioma

The way that we truly got involved with mesothelioma was that my husband was having lower back pain. He kept complaining about having sharp pain that would never go away. We went to see many doctors, and they said there was nothing there, and there was nothing going on, until we went to see a specialist. At that time they took an x-ray and CT scan to find out that there was a spot on his lung, but they still did not know exactly what is was.  At that time they asked him if he wanted to have a biopsy done. Well, Andrew.... he was the type of person that wanted everything done; he wanted to know what it was and how it worked. He was very curious, so he decided at that time to go ahead and have the biopsy done. We went into the hospital to have the biopsy done, and they told us that it would take about 45 minutes to do it, but it took about 4 hours. When the doctor came out, he came out with amazement. His eyes were stretched like never before. He said to me it took us a little longer than expected, and I said,"Well yeah, it took a lot longer."  So then at that time he expressed to me that he really didn’t know what this was, but it seemed to be mesothelioma. And I said, "Meso-what?"  Because I had never heard of it before, ever. I hadn’t heard of anything involving mesothelioma.
