Video Transcript: Woman Discovers She has Peritoneal Mesothelioma During Gallbladder Surgery
My name is Mary Jane Williams. I am from Springfield, Ohio. I’m 60 years old. My husband's name is Loring. I have two children: Stephanie and Travis. I have three grandchildren... it's one of the big reasons I am still here. I started becoming ill in November of 2002. I was put on an acid reflux medicine which did not help. In January of 2003 my doctors started running tests. I had MRI’s; I had CAT scans; and I had ultrasounds. He sent me to a specialist in Columbus, Ohio. Nobody could find out what it was or could diagnose me. The last test they finally did on me--and I don’t know the name of it--but it was where they did a scan that watched my gallbladder for an hour. They decided that my gallbladder was not working like it was supposed to. And so, my doctor gave me the option of either going to Cleveland Clinic or having my gallbladder out. And It was my decision, and I decided to have the surgery with the gallbladder. And that is when they found the mesothelioma: it had spread to my gallbladder.
