Video Transcript: Ernie's Brother Developed Pleural Mesothelioma While in the Navy
My brother spent a big portion of his life in the Navy. He was a naval person and spent his whole career in the Navy. He spent 20, 25 years in and retired from the Navy. He lived on ships most of his time. These ships were probably heavy-laden with asbestos covering plumbing in these ships.... which, if you have ever been on a ship, you find these bunks, sleeping quarters in ships; you are probably sleeping 6 inches away from asbestos-covered pipe. And consequently, this material gets dry and when bumped, it flakes off, and you start breathing in the asbestos. So that is how my brother contracted mesothelioma. My brother had a very short lifespan after diagnosis. He passed away one year after diagnosis....which I don’t know if this revolved around his medical conditions or not, but it was a year after diagnosis when he passed away.
