Video Transcript: Mesothelioma Chemotherapy - Patient Deals with Post-Surgery Complications

I couldn’t have the chemotherapy because I had so many things wrong. So I didn’t get my dose of chemo, and I was really concerned about that. And they told me, they said, "We got 90% of the disease." So those are good odds. But they don’t tell you that you should have come home and started a regimen of chemo. They don’t tell you that. So you are just kind of flying by the seat of your pants. And you’re thinking, okay, you got 90% of the disease, this is great; this is wonderful. I can start getting my life back together and doing some of the things that I have missed: my job, my family and my grandchildren. But, they don’t tell you that you should do that. So you blindly go back to work and do all of these things and oh, there is a sign of disease, so now you have to find someone to work with. Because now it is starting to come back. You are getting the symptoms. The belly is starting to swell again; the feet are starting to swell again, and you’re "uh-oh, what’s wrong? Why am I doing this? Why am I sick?" I go back for my consult for my first examination after the surgery, and he said, "Well you have signs of the disease. It’s back." "This quickly?" My Lord, this is not any typical cancer I have ever heard of. I had all of that surgery and all of those drugs…what was that for?
