Video Transcript: Auto Mechanic Exposed to Asbestos Develops Pleural Mesothelioma

I think primarily in the medical field of people I was doing business, was basically caused by asbestos. The surgeon that did my biopsy surgery and his group.... they stated the only way you acquire mesothelioma is asbestos-related. That was the thought from this doctor’s office. This is the only way you aquire mesothelioma. I worked approximately 50 years as an automobile mechanic, mainly in Ford dealerships. Working on automobiles you are subject to a lot of asbestos due to brakes and a lot of gasket materials. The issue I have with that, though, is that we weren’t told this is an existing health problem. I had a friend that I worked with who did exclusively brake work. I worked next to this man, and this man came down with asbestosis. I think that is when he had a lung removed. How he survived I don’t know because we separated later on down the years. We changed jobs, and businesses closed down. Working at a dealership is where I acquired all of my asbestos materials, I believe.
